Part Three

Today we had part three of Christmas, that is, with the in-laws. It had been a while since we had them over last and it was the first time the grandparents had come to our house. We had a roast and garlic mashed potatoes with cucumber salad and mashed parsnips. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, which is great because grandpa is a little specific.

Anyways, this year i made my mother in law a quilt, i love it, it was difficult to give this one away. It was all with fabric she had given me over time and she loved it. The snowflakes were Brent's contribution, he cut them out of paper which i then cut out of fabric and appliqued on.


I love the little Canadian mitten print.

Here's a token shot of the boys building. Brent got a ping pong table this year, which he is excited about because he can fold down half and play by himself. The look on grandpas face says it all.

It seems like the quilt went to good use!

This year i want to do more quilting and crocheting, my fabric and wool stash is not getting any smaller and i have lots of projects i'd love to get to.
My quilting goal for the year: I will make a spider web quilt with scraps!
My crochet goal for the year: I will make ten pairs of mittens!
House goal: I want to have all the rooms in the house be functional and clutter free, we have a lot of clutter mostly because we don't have a lot of closet space or dressers, a blessing and a curse, so our house needs to be purged!

OOO Baby, Baby.

Today i made a last minute quilt for Brent's friend who just had a baby girl named Hailey (awww). I bought the patterned fabric from ikea for cheap, i thought it was kinda fun and whimsical. I really think it's adorable, i'm glad to have finished another quilt finally, even if it is really tiny. I forgot to take a picture of the back (oops!) but it's just a white, pink and green argyll fleece (so cozy)

My machine was being a cry baby, i really wanted to free motion quilt a stipple pattern but for some reason, when i have my machine set up this way, it won't pick up the bobbin thread. Who knows.

Collars!

I've been feeling a little crafty lately and ever since i made Olive a Halloween Collar the gears in my little brain have been turning. They are so much more fun than collars that you buy in a store, and so much less expensive as i can sell mine for $12- $15 instead of $25. Anyways, I've been taking orders from a few friends for custom Christmas collars, these are a few i've done so far.

Quilting a Little

I've been quilting just a little lately, trying to get back in the groove. I haven't actually made a quilt since i had my surgery i think. So i'm trying to use fabric up in my stash so i can buy more (makes sense right?) I really like how this one is turning out so far, very cute. It'll be easy to finish (yay!)

My living room looks different again, shocking i know. I'm loving it, it'll be so much easier to have bare bones and add fun colors that will be easy to change whenever i feel like it (shhh).

Can't wait for it to be done and out of my house :)

Weekend Quilting

This weekend I got to some quilting, this one will be a christmas gift. Yes, I've started early, but really, when you have to complete 7 quilts for christmas, time is never on your side. This one will look similar to "A Little Bit Country" but with pinwheels in the center squares. Here's the fabric:

I like to cut as I go, I find it wasteful to cut everything and then sew. I always end up wanting to change something, so if it's already cut out, it doesn't really give me the freedom to modify my original idea.

I am always drawn back to piecing triangles, no idea why.

I also LOVE pinwheels, they are so dainty and sweet. I can't wait to finish it!

Chelsie's Quilt

Drumroll please......I have finally finished this quilt, which is a gift to a good friend. I started it long ago, and then gave it some time to breath. I am so glad that i did because in the time that it sat on my sewing desk, I have changed it so much from where it originally started, The pictures definitely do not do it justice, I didn't take pictures of the back but it's just a plain green fleece.

Popples

I've finally finished this quilt. It's all from fabric from my stash, which includes this Popples pattern from my grandmas stash. I started making this a long, long time ago, then i hated it. So, i remembered some advice from an old blog friend. If she is not particularly fond of a quilt she has made, she will hide it away for 6 months and then take it out again. That is precisely what i did with this quilt, i am more fond of it now than i was 6 months ago. Anyways, this is the front

And the back, a fun rainbow fleece. Trust me, it makes more sense in person. I would love to sell this beauty, i think it would make a super cute girls baby blanket. The only problem is that the Popple fabric is so old, i'm afraid that it won't be very durable (I have learned this the hard way in the past).

Chaise New Outfit

I got this wonderful chaise off of Kijiji a long time ago, it was this olive green microfibre color. The color was just too bland and boring so this weekend i made a custom blue slipcover, It was actually an easy process making this slipcover and i couldn't be happier with the results.

I just had to include this picture, this is in the same living room as the chaise, which has been redecorated as well, It's black, white and blue. Love it!

A Little Bit Country

Well, i finished it already, Brent told me that it's his favorite quilt so far. I would have to agree. I can't wait to sit on my porch with my dog on a cool summer morning and curl up with this quilt. Mostly all of the fabric was from Mrs. Kimak's stash (thank you thank you). The back is flannel so it gives the quilt some weight, which i LOVE!! It's a little crooked but i think it's pretty darn good considering i didn't measure at all, i just cut stuff and sewed it together, no plan what so ever. Such a rebel, lol.

Bird Silhouette

This weekend i decided to do some applique bird silhouettes for the bedroom, we have lots of black an white photos up and needed some black and white on the bed to even it out. The birds are made from fleece because i find that it doesn't fray. I sewed them on hand cranking with my machine. lol. This white and silver fabric for the pillow and the quilt back was from my friends mothers stash that she gave to me. It ended up being absolutely perfect for this project.

Sewing 1901-2010

This is my beatuy that i sew with, my partner in crime. It was a Christmas present years ago from my mother who taught me how to sew and be creative. I love this machine more than it's probably normal to love a sewing machine.

The next two pictures are of two different Singer Model 127's from 1948. One is old and rusty and the other is in impecable condition and still works. I haven't used it much but it's a beautiful machine.


This is a Singer Model 28 Sphinx from 1901, I got it from an antique store in Two Hills for $5.00. Best sale ever. I find it an incredibly beautiful work of art and wish that everyday items were still made just as tastefully as they use to be.

Last but not least, this blue beauty is a Beacon machine from somewhere around the 1950's, i can't seem to find much information about Beacon's on the internet, so i don't really know much about this machine except that it works but is difficult to thread.

One Fish, Two Fish

This is a quilt i just finished for a friend of mine who loves fish. the border is definitely my favorite part, There will be a quilt soon to follow that is based on this border.

Merry Christmas

Finally i finished my brothers quilt for Christmas, He's so simple, he said he specifically wanted a black quilt with a thin blue border. But he had this old t-shirt that didn't fit him anymore that he wanted framed. (framed in a quilt perhaps?) So, in the end i think i followed his rules pretty close.




And the majority is cozy, warm, fleece.

Christmas time is here!

I made this for my mom as a Christmas gift this year. Most of it was from her stash of old Christmas flannels that she made pj's from. So i stole it from her to make this cute pin wheel quilt. My cats always manage to find a way to take over my projects. This will be the last time i piece triangles for a long time
